It seems now Twitter is taking a keen interest in the potential tweeters living in India. In a latest development, the micro blogging social website has expanded its local trends in the nation across 21 cities.

The list includes major metro cities like Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and other cities include Amritsar, Bhopal, Indore, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Nagpur, Patna, Pune Rajkot, Ranchi, Srinagar, Surat and Thane, while Mumbai has already been in the list since 2011.

Localization is a big deal to Twitter. Ensuring that tweeters from all around the world and languages can navigate and understand Twitter's interface to aim for international success. Location based local trends can discover what topics are trending in their region. To see what's being discussed in a given area, click the "change" link underneath the "Trends" subheader and select a location.

A big part of the reason why Twitter has yet to really take off in India may be because it is still seen as the social network for larger-than-life figures like celebrities, rather than the everyday person. Also the company is trying to penetrate in by rebranding itself as an information network rather than a microblogging platform. Twitter has become a source of breaking news and relevant information for a larger segment of society - and now a success it no doubt hopes to emulate in India.
